It’s amazing how a small adjustment in your life can have a major impact on your perspective. It has become second nature for us to allow our mindsets to think in a certain way when we’ve been living in a repetitive circumstance. Especially when we’re surrounded by the same types of people for a long period of time.
Let’s bring some psychology into this. Our judgment and the way we view situations rely heavily on our morals, principles and what we have personally experienced in our past. However, far too often, we relate our perceptions only to ourselves. This can cause a one dimensional way of thinking.
How do we work on this?
TALK TO SOMEONE WITH A DIFFERENT VIEW
This can be uncomfortable seeing as though people generally do not react to differences very well, but it is a worthwhile process. You’re bound to feel some discomfort and may experience some negative emotions or thoughts when receiving a difference of perspective. Acknowledge them and allow them to flow, this is how you learn.
YOU DO NOT ALWAYS HAVE TO SPEAK
Physically be there in the present. A large impact can be made in your life when you sit and observe people’s behaviors. It’s a common misconception for people to think that you lack interest or understanding when you’re in silent mode. I personally believe that you end up gaining a better sense of awareness.
BE VIGILANT OF PEOPLE’S MOTIVES
Look at any situation an individual is in and give some thought as to what their motive may be behind it. Interpreting someone’s motive based on your knowledge database can easily cause misunderstanding. Take a step outside your box of motives and question why they’re making a certain decision or why are they reacting in a particular way.
